Ten Nigerian Journalists have won the Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO’s Mini-media Fellowship Project Award on “The human face of avian influenza’’.
The fellowship is open to media practitioners in print, radio, video/television, photography and online/digital.
Speaking at the presentation of the fellowship in Abuja, FAO Representative in Nigeria, Dr Helder Mutiea, said it was aimed at promoting in-depth reporting on avian influenza.
He said those considered for the award employed “innovative multi-media communication approach’’ and focused on areas of the country affected by and at the risk of contacting the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
Dr Mutiea said the recipients would meet with FAO officials, government specialists, community leaders, poultry farmers and traders among others.
36 entries were received, ninety per cent of the entries came from
male Journalists and ten per cent from female Journalists.
