A team of European Commission (EC) and federal government officials will visit Ondo State on July 16 to discuss the implementation of a new €45.5Million (about N7.7 billion) micro Projects Programme in the state and eight other states of the Niger Delta region (MPP9).
The objective of the micro projects programme, funded by the European Union (EU), is to accelerate social and economic development and to assist in resolving the conflicts in the Niger Delta region. (more…)
The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City, has ordered that the candidate of the Labour party (LP) in the 2007 Governorship elections in Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko should be sworn in immediately as Governor of Ondo State in South West Nigeria.
Delivering Judgement few minutes ago, the Appeal Court upheld the verdict of a lower election tribunal which had earlier overturned the ‘victory’ of Dr. Olusegun Agagu of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP).
This is the second time in less than a week that the Court of Appeal will overturn Governorship results of the 2007 elections that was widely believed to be plagued with malpractices. Last week, the same court ordered the then Governor of the neighbouring Ekiti State Dr Segun Oni to vacant seat, and called for fresh elections 10 Local Governments disputed by the opposition party, the Action Congress.
Interestingly, the newly declared Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, worked as Secretary to the Ondo State Governor, during the first tenure of office of Olusegun Agagu between 1999-2003.
