The Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation yesterday  continued its investigations of the purchase of a printing machines for the Federal Government Press in Lagos, with witnesses including the former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Chief Dapo Sarumi appearing before the committee to explain his role in the purchase of the equipments.

The crux of the investigations is to determine the state of the printing equipments when they were supplied in 2001, as the printing machines have presently broken down. While some alleged that the machines were supplied as scraps, others believed that they broke down after use.

Testifying yesterday,   Sarumi said the printing equipments were ordered and supplied before his appointment as a Minister, and therefore he knew nothing about the purchases of the printing press.

However, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Duro Melaye, countered this claim, showing documents that the equipments were ordered and supplied during the tenure of Chief Dapo Sarumi as Minister of Information and National Orientation.
