Thierry Henry to miss Nigeria vs France friendly

Bacerlona’s star, Thierry Henry will not be in the line up for the French National team that faces Nigeria’s Super Eagles in an International friendly this week.

The Barcelona forward almost missed the Champions League win over Manchester United last Wednesday, but made a late recovery to start the game and help Pep Guardiola’s team to a 2-0 win in Rome.

Nigeria’s naira now about N160 to Dollar in Black Market

The naira, according to agency reports, traded at N160 to the dollar yesterday, compared with about N182 on May 22, when the CBN ban was lifted.

A foreign currency dealer who trades in Surulere, Lagos, said yesterday he bought the dollar at 161 naira today (yesterday).

2010 World cup qualifier: Tunisia is ready for Super Eagles, says Team captain

TUNISIAN National football team Captain Radhi Jaidi, told an Arab website that he was looking forward to a thrilling 2010n World cup qualifier game against Nigeria on June 20, adding that every member of his team was gearing up for the tie.

Nigeria News: Lagos state government shuts down African’s shrine

The Lagos State Government, Nigeria has shut down the new Africa Shrine, managed by Femi Kuti, son of the later Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti

A letter from Lagos authorities dated Monday, accused the Shrine of breaching the state’s environmental laws citing “noise nuisance, illegal street trading, indiscriminate parking, blocking of access roads and obstruction of traffic.”

Yeni Kuti, a dancer and the eldest child of Fela Kuti, who co-manages the club with Femi, said the state government gave the Kuti family 48 hours “to abate the nuisance and restore the land to a conducive environment” but closed the club less than 24 hours after the delivery of the letter.

“I’m shocked, indignant. They dropped the note on Monday evening and the next day at 9:00 a.m. they had closed the place,” she told AFP.

Fela Aikulapo Kuti died of AIDS on August 2, 1997.

Nigerian militants plan to acquire military jets

Niger Delta militants may have been shopping for more sophisticated military hardware, including armoured cars and jets, before the Joint Task Force (JTF) began the ongoing operation in Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State, it was learnt yesterday.

JTF Commander Major-Gen. Sarkin Bello, who dropped the hint, said documents gathered from the militants’ headquarters showed that they were in the market for such weapons. (more…)
