Nigeria football authorities shortlist five for Super Eagles top job

Ratomir Djugovic of Serbia may take over he Nigeria head coach of the Super Eagles, Shuaibu Amodu as he is the favourite out of five people shortlisted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)  as  new manager for the Super Eagles

Other coaches recommended by the NFF for the post of Technical Adviser are, both of the Netherlands

The federation said that it had not yet officially approached any of the managers but that a one month screening process would now commence with a view to appointing one of the shortlisted coaches as technical adviser.

It was also announced that the beleaguered head coach of the Super Eagles, Shuaibu Amodu, would not be sacked but would move aside to take charge of the affairs of the home based players.

The announcement was made late on Friday night by NFF technical committee chairman, Taiwo Ogunjobi who added that the meeting was adjourned until Tuesday next week.

Ratomir Dujkovic, who coached Ghana for two years, is currently the manager of the Under-21 Serbian team and has coached in various parts of Africa.

European Investors storm Nigeria

A delegation of senior executives, led by EIB Vice President Plutarchos Sakellaris, will be in Nigeria from 7th - 12th February, to hold meetings with top Government officials and discuss deals with key players in the Nigerian financial sector.

The European Investment Bank is the European Union’s long-term lending institution, owned by all 27 member states, and last year invested in excess of EUR 79bn in projects across the European Union, Africa and beyond. Vice President Sakellaris is responsible for lending operations in sub-Saharan Africa

In recent years the European Investment Bank has provided over EUR 220m of funding for projects across Nigeria, alongside 3.5bn of investment in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries under the Cotonou Mandate.

Nigeria’s Railway Corporation gets five new locomotives

Nigeria’s Railway Corporation has received five diesel locomotives from the General Electric Co. the first in an order of 25, with the rest to be delivered in the second half of this year..

The locomotives were built by a GE subsidiary in Brazil.

Having watched with a mixture of disbelief, disgust and disappointment the unfolding events that have beset our Beloved Nation these past days, we wish to bring to your attention the need for the National Assembly to act promptly and decisively to stave off calamity arising from this disquieting drift.

Like anybody with any tinge of human feeling, we strongly wish Alhaji Umar Yar’Adua ultimate recovery from the ailment he suffers from. However, we wish to place on record that because of the impunity with which he has treated the Nigerian people and the Constitution that he swore to uphold, His Excellency has completely spent the goodwill of majority of Nigerians.
