Roundtable on Cyber security holds in Abuja, Nigeria

The National Assembly Anti-Money Laundering and Cyber Security Coalition (AMLCSC), and the Policy Analysis & Research Project of the National Assembly (PARP-NASS) in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Finance and office of the Accountant-General of the Federation is organising a  “Special Legislative Briefing and Roundtable  On the Federal E–Payment Program & Cybersecurity Strategy.”
The goal of the forum is to update the National Assembly on the Status of the Federal ePayment Program as implemented by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), who will also share any challenges whether technical, operational or legal with Stakeholders at the forum.
All key stakeholders involved in the financial and technology sectors of the economy have been invited and will be on hand to brainstorm on the state and readiness of our technology and related infrastructures in the country to deliver ePayment in a safe, secure and reliable manner; identifying any gaps or shortcomings that can be remedied through legislative intervention.
The event is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date:    Monday – Tuesday, December 7- 8, 2009
Time:    9.00 am – 5pm Daily
Venue:  Conference Hall,
House of Representatives (New Wing),
National Assembly, Abuja.

The highlight of the event is the Special Keynote Address titled: “Implementation of the Presidential Directive on E-Payment under the Treasury Framework Established by the OAGF,” to be delivered by the Accountant General of the Federation.

UNICEF organises charity walk for children

Hundreds of  Nigerian children walked over several kilometres in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja on yesterday, on a UNICEF-organised campaign to raise funds for orphans and vulnerable children.

The funds realised from the programme would help provide care for at least 2,000 street children.

Nigeria’s First Lady Turai Yar’Adua, who spoke after the programme, called for collaboration by the government, private organisations, non-governmental organisations, individuals and others to protect and care for vulnerable children.

Nigeria News: Chicago 2016 Olympics bid team in Abuja to lobby African countries

Chicago 2016 bid team Chairman and CEO Patrick G. Ryan is leading a delegation to Nigeria to lobby African countries for the granting of the 2016 Olympic hosting right to Chigaco.

The Chicago 2016 bid team  will be making a presentation before the National Olympic Committees of Africa General Assembly, which meets Monday and Tuesday.

More than a dozen members of the International Olympic Committee — the official body that selects a host city — will be on hand at the event.

It is no longer news that the 21st century is the information and knowledge age. What is news are the ways most societies are adapting and engaging the new economy built on knowledge, especially knowledge of information and communications technology and how these can be applied as building blocks for development in the 21sts century.

Nigeria News: FG sets up committee to review FCT projects

 A committee has been set up by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to review submission of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)’s comprehensive reports on   on-going projects in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja
