Stakeholders in Ekiti state have finalized the state Water Supply and Sanitation policy with a pledge by the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi to implement programmes that will address acute shortage of improved drinking water supply and safe facilities in the state

At a two day stakeholders’ consultative forum organized to review the States Water Supply and Sanitation policy, Governor Kayode Fayemi pledged to initiate programmes and implement projects that will increase water supply from the present 40% level to 80% level by 2014.

Also speaking at the forum, the Director of Justice, Development and Peace Initiative, Rev. Fr. Raphael Aborisade wcalled for more proactive measures on the part of stakeholders to raise the profile of water supply and sanitation in the State.

The Peoples Democratic Party is leading the run Governorship elections in Ekiti state, South West Nigeria; and its candidate Dr Segun Oni may be soon be declared winner.

Reports from the collation centres which broadcasted live on the local television station shows that the PDP led the Action Congress by an overwhelming 16,068 votes, after results of all the 63 wards in the 10 local governments were collated.

Dr Segun Oni wide margin of victory was mainly as a result of the decision of the electoral body to accept the controversial results of the Ido Osi Local Government where the PDP scored 15,939 votes to the AC 3793 votes

A total of 44,306 were announced for the PDP’s candidate, Dr Segun, while Dr Kayode Fayemi of the AC scored 28,238 votes in all the 63 wards where re run elections were held on April 25 and earlier today.

Reports from the collation centre however indicates that the PDP’s candidate is yet to be declared winner of the election because of on going protest by supporters of the Action Congress, who are unhappy with the outcome of the results.

Supporters of the Action Congress  are protesting the resultshave held the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner Mrs Ayoka Adebayo, hostage

 Acrion Congress Candidate in todays Ekiti state re run Governorship elections, Dr Kayode Fayemi has accused the Peoples Democratic Party  of not being interested in a free and fair elections

The Peoples Democratic Party  is not interested in concept of “One Man, One vote”, said Fayemi some minutes while addressing Journalists on the on going re run Governorship elections in the state.

“It is only the Action Congress that is interested in “One Man, One vote”, and has been hammering on this. Why is it that the other party is not interested in this?

Speaking on the on going elections, Fayemi said it has been ‘The PDP is generally instigating violence. The elections have been  riddled with violence, snatching of ballot boxes, intimidation of voters, and physical assault on some of his supporters’

But he expessed confidence of winning the elections if the Nigerian Police and the Electoral body do their work properly and prevent electoral malpractices.

Ekiti state re run elections in presently on going with reports of tight police security, delayed voting  and pockets of  electoral violence in some of the  63 wards in which voting is taking place.

There was a reported case of ballot box snatching in Ijero Ekiti which appears not to be well policed like other wards. In Oke Imesi, electoral officials have not reported for duty as of an hour ago.  Voting is going on peacefully in Ijede Ekiti and tight security is reported.
