March 26, 2009 By: Our Correspondent Category: football

Mikel Obi will be not feature for the super eagles during  Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying tie against Mozambique on Sunday.

Mikel has a sore throat, announced team official Idah Peterside. He wil be part of the team, but will not be playing.

Mikel earlier this week informed Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu that he is unwell and may therefore not be available for the Mozambique match.

Chelsea formally informed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that Mikel is suffering from a throat infection.

However, Nigeria officials ordered that he join up with the team in South Africa, where they have been training ahead of the match in Maputo.

Nigeria will be without several other players for this encounter as a result of injury.

Everton Joseph Yobo is nursing a hamstring injury while FC Sion defender Yusuf Mohammed is sidelined with a tendon complaint.
