A Public dialogue on ‘Right to Water’, holds tomorrow in Lagos, Nigeria.

A statement by the organizers states that the dialogue is being organized to examine ways of mainstreaming the Right to Water into Nigeria’s Water policies

Speakers expected at the event include the Group Managing Director of the Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Shayo Halloway; the Chair of the Africa Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation-Mr. Leo Otakpu; and Professor Lekan Oyebande, Chair, Technical Committee of the West Africa Water Partnership

A global study titled ‘Freedom On The Net 2011,’ conducted by a US-based organization with help from the United Nations Democratic Fund, have ranked Nigeria 13th out of 37 countries.

Estonia is at the  top and Iran at the bottom of the rankings , while other African countries like South Africa ranked (7), and Kenya (9) have freer cyberspace.

The purpose of this write up is to bring our case in Somolu/Bariga Federal Constituency before the public court of justice.

We are insisting on our right to be represented by our true representative from within. We say no categorically to an offer to service from without because we have many capable hands within Somolu from various political parties that can represent us in the House of Representatives. We therefore reject any attempt to impose on us, a mercenary representative or outside representative no matter from which quarter.

Former minister of information and communication, Dora Akunyili says she has decided to drop out of the ministry and join in the senatorial race to help out her state of Origin, Anambra state move forward.

The former NAFDAC boss who was made minister of information barely 24months ago and facing challenges with the re-branding Nigeria project explained that she would be “…leaving a comfortable place to go to a more difficult terrain, to join Gov Peter Obi.”

Turkish State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan  wants Agreements for prevention of double taxation and reciprocal protection of investments signed between Turkey and Nigeria.

Turkish State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan pointed out that real estate and hotel accommodation prices were high in Nigeria urging Turkish contractors to make investments in this country.

Caglayan who is visiting Nigeria within the scope of his tour of three African countries met with 50 businessmen accompanying him and representatives of Turkish companies based in Nigeria.

He said rents and hotel accommodation were costly in Nigeria urging Turkish companies to build homes and hotels in this country.

“There is business opportunities here for contractors, consultants and everyone. It will be possible to reap benefits of investments in the areas of construction and tourism in a short time,” said Caglayan.

Caglayan pointed out that the legal infrastructure should be enhanced in order to promote the economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

“Agreements for prevention of double taxation and reciprocal protection of investments should be signed (between Turkey and Nigeria). A free trade agreement and an economic cooperation agreement may even be signed. Under our Africa Strategy, Nigeria is a country of priority and importance for us. There is bread (business opportunity) for everyone who comes here,” said Caglaya

Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole has presented a N105.994bn budget as road mark budget for his state in 2011. The 2011 budget is said to be in excess of about N4bn of its 2010 budget and broken down as follows; 58% earmarked for capital expenditure and infrastructural development, 84% to recurrent expenditure and a certain percentage dedicated to construction of intercity road to 13 local governments in Edo state.
