A two day meeting to discuss strategies for promoting democratic management of public water supplies opens tomorrow in Barcelona, Spain.
Participants include the Spanish Association of Public Services for Water Supply and Sanitation, Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company, National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water Supply Morocco, and New York City Water .
Tagged: ‘Strategy meeting on the Future of Public Water: global coalition-building for democratic public water’, the meeting is being organised by Reclaiming Public Water Network as a prelude to the Global Water Operators Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) biannual Congress, holding 27- 29th November, in Barcelona, Spain
A statement released by Satoko Kishimoto, Coordinator of the Reclaiming Public Water Network, said issues to be discussed in the meeting include: Alternatives emerging from struggles against privatization and commodification of water: fighting to return water services into public ; Building new models of public water (management); What is the role of the communities in the global south in the provision of water?; and Human rights to water and sanitation, making it real.
