Dam politics in Nigeria

The proposal of the Bauchi state Government to construct the Kafin-Zaki dam over the Kumadugu-Yobe River, continues to generate adverse reactions, the latest  coming from the Governor of Yobe state in Northern Nigeria, Alhaji Mamman Ali.

Speaking when receiving the members of the Executive Committe of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), in his office recently, Governor Ali said: the construction of the dam will cause “environmental degradation and damages” and disrupt livehoods of rural farmers who derive income from Pastoral and farming activities.
