Enugu State safest in South East, says Governor Chime

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has said  Enugu state was one of the safest in the South East Geo-political Zone as far as the incidence of kidnapping and violent armed crimes were concerned.

Receiving members of the Course 19 team of National Defence College ofChime, said the feat was attributable to the diligence of security agencies working in the state, of which the military was a major force.

“Since the administration assumed office in 2007, we decided to restore the lost glory of Enugu, through aggressive provision of infrastructure to enable investors to make the city their home,” he said.

The governor said he was delighted that the state was chosen as one of the nine states to be visited by the team.

He commended the military personnel for sacrificing their lives in defence of the nation against external and internal aggression.

The leader of the team, Brig-Gen. Christian Ugwu, had earlier told the governor that they were in Enugu as part of the college’s training curriculum.

He said other states to be visited for the strategic study between October 17 and 23 were Enugu, Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Niger, Osun and Gombe.

“The study will centre on socio-economic and environmental developments in the states, focusing on their challenges and prospects.

“We will look at government’s efforts at tackling the socio-economic and environmental problems as well as study the people’s culture and geography,’’ he added.

Ugwu said that at the end of the study, a formal report on their findings would be presented on each state.
