Nigeria 2011 Elections: President Jonathan Refocusing and Rescheduling

After the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the northern consensus PDP candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan updated his Facebook status as follows;  “Fellow Nigerians, as you notice an upswing in political activities I want to assure you that not only will I focus on my sworn commitment of providing leadership for all Nigerians, I will also run and encourage others to run a national campaign devoid of sectionalism because leaders ought to unite not divide. Again, the only difference we should look for in Nigeria is between good and bad not North and South.”

According to SA to the president on Media and Publicity, Ima Niboro, a meeting which was to hold between the president and the four northern aspirants was cancelled because of the emergence of Atiku as the consensus candidate of the north.

He said the meeting would be rescheduled for another date and it would involve only the president and Atiku. It was gathered that the meeting would however deliberate on campaign strategies such that the aspirants would undertake to run campaigns.
