Nigeria Biosafety Bill

 Nigeria Biosafety Bill, Bill seeks to provide regulatory frameworks, institutional and administrative mechanisms for safety measures in the application of modern biotechnology in Nigeria with a view to preventing any adverse effect on human health, animals, plants and the environment.

The Bill, which has generated controversies among stakeholders, passed through a 1st reading at the House of Representatives in Abuja early February 2009.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) /REFORMS Project which promotes policy reforms and builds institutional capacities that strengthen public sector management at both the Federal and state levels also organised a media roundtable on the Bill.
