Nigeria: Cowbell Launches Rugby Coaching Scheme

Cowbell Plc will today launch Lagos rugby coaching clinic for secondary schools.

This is part of plans to establish and sponsor youth rugby in Nigeria between the Nigeria Rugby Federation (NRFF) through the RUGBY4Nigeria Foundation and Promasidor Nigeria Ltd.

Fola Odetoyinbo, NRFF Head of Youth Development, said that the scheme is aimed at teaching the game of rugby to JSS 1 students between the ages of 11 and 12.

“Furthermore, 12 coaches have been accredited following completion of a comprehensive International Rugby Board (IRB) training program. Each coach will be given a package including track suit, rugby shirts, training cones, balls, pumps, stop watch and a laptop to enable them train the students at their designated schools,” he added.

Approximately 500 people are expected at the launch at Tafa Balewa Square. The attendees will comprise representatives of 28 secondary schools participating in the program, with each school represented by 2 teachers and 15 students.

Also to attend the the launch will be Prince Adeniji Adele, Lagos State Commissioner of Sports, Mr Keith Richards, the Managing Director of Promasidor and Dr Richard Ajayi, the President of the NRFF and representatives of the Lagos State Sports Development and the National Sports Commission.
