Nigeria: Ekiti state gets New ‘Governor’

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, in South West Nigeria, Honourable Tunji Odeyemi was yesterday sworn in as Acting Governor of Ekiti State, as the Federal Court of Appeal sitting in Ilorin ordered Engr. Segun Oni to immeadiately vacant office as Governor of Ekiti State.

Delivering Judgment on an appeal brought before it by the Action Congress Governorship Candidate in the 2007 elections, Dr Kayode Fayemi, the presiding judge, of the five-man panel, Justice Dattijo Mohammed  said  Engineer Oni’s election was vitiated on the grounds of non-compliance with the provisions of electoral act 2006 in ten(10) out of the 16 local government councils areas of the state.

The affected 10 local government councils where the Court of Appeal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections  within 30 days are Ido-Osi, Ikole, Oye, Ekiti-West, Ekiti South, Irepodun,  Ise-Orun, ijero, Gbonyin, Ekiti East, Ise-Orun, Ijero, Gbonyin and Ekiti East Local Government Areas of the state.
