The Chairman, Ogun state Local Government Service Commission, Chief Kola Olumide Ogun State has said that his commission recruited a total of 4,593 officers into the Local Government Service Commission within the last six years.
Chief Olumide said that this represented a 57.46% in the size of the workforce over and above the initial size of 6,203.
The Chairman pointed out that the Local Government Service which had a few professionals like doctors and other health workers can now boast of at least two medical doctors, a pharmacist, several Chartered Accountants and other professionals manning the various departments of each Local Government.
Chief Olumide added that two officers from the United Local Government Service had been appointed as Permanent Secretaries which, according to him, was unprecedented in the annals of Local Government Service in the State.
His words: “Prior to the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel in 2003, there were only six departments in every Local Government. The number has however increased now to nine with the creation of three departments which are Water and Environmental Sanitation Department, Planning, Research and Statistics as well as Community Development, Tourism, Culture, Youth, Women Affairs and Employment Generation Department.
