Nigeria: Modakeke-Ife feud resolved?

Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola

The protracted crisis between Ife and Modakeke communities in the Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State might have been resolved.

We learnt that, Osun State Governor, Prince  Olagunsoye Oyinlola recently  brokered a peace meeting between Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ile Ife, and Chief Rufus Adedoyin, Ogunsua of Modakeke, who reportedly pledged his allegiance to the Ooni.

With the resolution of the crisis, the Modakeke monarch, Chief Rufus Adedoyin is likely to be promoted to a beaded crown wearing King, while his subjects the Modakekes will start cultivating ‘Ife’ farmlands, abandoned during the communal riots.

The Modakeke-Ife crisis which started in 1981, featured arson, murder and orgies of violence between the two neighbouring communities over the years.
