Launch of Water and Sanitation Media Network- Nigeria

 1. We the undersigned Journalists reporting activities in Nigeria’s Water and Sanitation for various media in Nigeria such as Newspapers, Television stations, Magazines, and Online news agencies; 2. Attended a one-day media-training workshop organized by WaterAid Nigeria in Gubabi Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital. 3. Used the opportunity of our coming together in this workshop to organize a side meeting during which we discussed issues of mutual interests relating to our work. 4. We hereby announced the formation of a Coalition to be known as Water and Sanitation Media Network– (WATSAN Media Network -Nigeria) comprising active Journalists reporting Nigeria’s water and sanitation sector. 5. The WATSAN Media Network shall operate like a Non governmental organization and be registered under the relevant Nigerian laws. 6. It shall prepare its programmes and implement them with internal and external funds. 7. The WATSAN Media Network shall be temporarily headquartered in the office of WaterAID Nigeria, Abuja. 8. The Aims and Objectives of the networks shall include: a. Increase the technical capacity of Nigeria’s WATSAN Journalists to effectively report and analyze water and sanitation issues. b. Generally increase the understanding of Nigeria’s of WATSAN Journalists on water and sanitation issues. c. WATSAN Media Network -Nigeria shall be a platform for its members to discharge the constitutional assigned responsibility of upholding government responsibility to the people. d. WATSAN Media Network -Nigeria shall embark on Policy advocacy to ensure and guarantee every Nigerian access to water and sanitation services. e. The body shall facilitate the participation of its members in relevant local and international meetings, conferences and workshops. f. The body shall cooperate with other bodies with similar aims for the promotion of its objectives. Such organizations include the Water Media Network, the Africa Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation, the National Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation in Nigeria, and the Nigerian Union of Journalists.  9. A three man Management committee comprising Omoniyi Omojugbagbe of Crowther FM Abuja, Regina Eche-Fali of Radio Benue, Markurdi, and Babatope Babalobi of WaterWatch is set up to oversee the successful take off of the WATSAN Media network.Signed:1.
