Nigeria news: Electricity Workers debunk FG’s claim

Electricity workers under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) have dismissed claims that the Federal Government has set aside N130 billion to address labour issues in the power reform.

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mrs Bola Onagoruwa, had penultimate week in Lagos said the Federal Government had set aside N130billion to cater for the needs of electricity workers who may be affected by the reforms in the power sector.

According to the association,”that the President had set aside N130 billion to address labour issues in the reform is coming to us as a surprise since we had not negotiated or discussed the totality of payment on severance benefits to our members.

“We only hope that this said amount is not set aside only to disappear the way other huge amounts that government claimed it expended on PHCN.

“It is absurd to impugn on the personality of the General Secretary of our sister Union-NUEE, who is by his calling is defending the cause of the workers of PHCN. It will be wrong to heap blame on him for the failure of the approaches of government on this matter so far”.
