Water Consumers Associations (WCAs) have been inaugurated in the eleven selected communities benefiting from the European Union Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme (WSSSRP) in Osun State, Nigeria
Speaking at the occasion, the Progamme Manager of WSSSRP in Osun State, Allhaji Oluwatoyin Yusuff who represented the Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Hon. Olusola Komolafe, advised WCA members to dedicate themselves to work for the progress of their communities without expecting any financial gain. He also implored the communities at large to contribute their 5% counterpart fund of the total cost of the construction of preferred water sources.
Responding, the Chairmen of the WCAs, all pledged their support the success of the programme in selected 11 small towns.
Meanwhile, the EU-WSSSRP, STU in Osun State is facilitating the registration of Water Consumer Associations in the eleven self selected communities in order to give them a legal backing.
Towards achieving this, a one day meeting with the representatives of eleven small towns and the Local Government Water, Environmental and Hygiene (WES) Directors was held on while the Board of Trustees in the 11 small towns have filled and signed a form on Memorandum for guidance of applicants.
