Nigeria news: Group raises alarm of President Jonathan visit to Kebbi

A CiviL Society Group-  Kebbi Forum for Democracy and Justice has said the  proposed visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Kebbi State on October 28, will only be a jamboree because there is not a single project worth commissioning in the state

Addressing a news conference in Kaduna, Chairman of the Group, Alhaji Kabiru Sani Giant, alleged that the PDP government had wasted Kebbi State’s resources.

“The Chief of Staff, Permanent Secretary in the Government House and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health are all from Dakingari. The Accountant-General of the state, Chairman of the state’s Pilgrims Welfare Board, Project Manager, Kebbi Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KARDA) are all from the governor’s hometown,” he added.

Giant further alleged that major projects such as the Millennium Goal, hospital projects and several others are being handled by one Lawali Na Lawal, who is the governor’s nephew.

Responding, the Senior Adviser to the Governor on Media, Ibrahim Musa Argungu, who spoke to our correspondent on phone, accused Giant of abandoning about five contracts that were awarded to him. He also said that as head of the Dakingari “Two terms Campaign”, Giant was yet to account for some money.

He added that though the accountant general is from Argungu, the governor had nothing to do with his appointment.

Argungu also said that the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health is not from Dakingari town and that contracts in the state are awarded through competitive bidding.
