President Yar’Adua says his administration will not adopt wholesome the recommendations of the Muhammed Uwais report on the Electoral Reform, even as Nigerian workers and civil society organisations begin a nation wide strike today to pressure Government to adopt the recommendations
Speaking to Journalists in Abuja yesterday, the President said there is no where in the world where a government White Paper adopts all the recommendations in a report without its input
President Yar’Adua noted that “a situation where government sets up committee and in the White Paper on the report the government wholesomely adopts and implements the report of the Committee without its input has never happened before in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world.
The Uwais Electoral Committee made a total of 83 recommendations. Ten were rejected and 73 of them were accepted and noted. Those calling for the full implementation of the Uwais report have no knowledge of what they are talking about.”
