Nigeria ranks 13th in cyber freedom study

A global study titled ‘Freedom On The Net 2011,’ conducted by a US-based organization with help from the United Nations Democratic Fund, have ranked Nigeria 13th out of 37 countries.

Estonia is at the  top and Iran at the bottom of the rankings , while other African countries like South Africa ranked (7), and Kenya (9) have freer cyberspace.

The report talks of a Chinese woman who was sent to a labour camp over a satirical Twittermessage, the arrest of an 18-year-old Iranian who blogged about women’s rights and a 19-year old Tibetan who was detained for looking at online photographs of the Dalai Lama.
