Next Thursday, November 19, World Toilet Day will be marked in Nigeria and several countries around the world.
The yearly event started in 2001 when the World Toilet Association http://worldtoiletday.org/ declared November 19 as World Toilet Day to create awareness and bring attention of the world to the plight of 2.5 billion people who do not have access to clean and safe toilet facilities.
The event has since, gained momentum and now supported by the United Nations Assembly.
In Nigeria, where a 2012 report by UNICEF and World Health Organisation figure show that an estimated 34 million people do not have safe toilets and practice open defecation, the National Task Group on Sanitation has planned series of activities to mark the day.
