Nigeria’s Presidential election is underway as voters are presently getting accredited at the polling booths which opened 8 a.m. local time (GMT) and will stay open until the last accredited voter on the queue casts his or her vote.
There are more than 73 million eligible voters in the most populous African nation.
At least 20 candidates are contesting the election. But the four candidates are considered the front runners.
The presidential contenders include incumbent Goodluck Jonathan of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Muhammadu Buhari, retired army general and former military head of state, is the candidate for Change for Progressive Congress (CPC).
The other two heavyweights are Nuhu Ribadu of the main opposition party, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and Ibrahim Shekarau of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP)
