Nigeria’s Lawal to face ban for two years

Nigerian sprinter Bola Lawal has been banned for two years after returning a positive test to an anabolic agent, the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority said on Thursday.

ASADA confirmed that Athletics Australia had imposed the ban on Lawal after he tested positive for methandienone at the IAAF 2010 Melbourne Track Classic last March.

Lawal, who competed for Nigeria at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, is ineligible to participate until April 12, 2012 as an athlete or support person in any national and international sports that have adopted a WADA compliant anti-doping policy, ASADA said.

Athletics Australia also disqualified Lawal?s results obtained at the IAAF Melbourne Classic, where he was placed first in the 100m sprint and second in the 200m sprint, and will forfeit any medals, points and prizes.
