Nigeria’s Teachers strike: Lagos state Government says no plans to sack teachers

The Lagos State government has assured that the on going strike embarked upon by teachers in the state will neither lead to mass sack or salary slash.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele made this known while fielding questions from Newsmen at the State Secretariat, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos.

“ All we can do as government is to appeal to the striking teachers to go back to work. We have never at any point in time contemplated the idea of salary cut or mass retrenchment. The workers must however reciprocate this gesture by discouraging any agitation that may compel government to retrench them.” Bamidele has declared.

The clarification has come on the heel of news reports that government is planning a mass sack of its teaching work force in the state.
