The Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) is working to ensure harmonious relationship and peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians in the country.
Co-chairman of NIREC and chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejiafor who paid a courtesy visit to Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko in Sokoto yesterday said NIREC was bringing Muslims and Christians to interact in order to maintain peace.
He said on behalf of NIREC they also expressed their heartfelt sympathy with victims of the flood disaster in the state and prayed God to provide relief for them.
Responding, Governor Wamakko thanked them for their efforts towards bringing peace and harmonious relationship between the two religions.
Wamakko said peace and unity were highly important for the nation’s democracy, pointing out that with these, political office holders can successfully deliver dividends of democracy to the electorate.
