Lagos state to monitor traffic with close circuit cameras

In a bid to curtail continuous flouting of traffic rules on Lagos major high ways, especially the use of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes by undesignated drivers, the Lagos state government has expressed readiness to use Close circuit camera (CCTV) to arrest and prosecute offenders.

The State Governor, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) stated this at an event while decrying high spate of traffic violation by erring drivers in the state.

According to the Governor, during the peak hours, vehicle driven by uninformed men or ones in which they are passengers, fragrantly abuse the use of the BRT lanes, an abuse which has grave implication for passengers safety.

“I must caution all those who are in the habit of violating the BRT lanes to desist from doing so. For those who persistently violate this law, I assure you that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them.”

“Very soon, we shall install CCTV on Ikorodu road and other roads in Lagos. You certainly can not hide anymore. We will catch up with you and the full weight of the law will be visited on offenders.” The Governor has declared.
