UN pledges support for Nigeria in disaster reduction

The United Nations (UN) has reiterated its commitment to working closely with Nigeria through its National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and its state agencies in helping to build up the country’s cities against disasters.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Dauda Toure on behalf of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, disclosed yesterday in Abuja while marking the International Day for Disaster Reduction, that climate change conditions had contributed largely to devastating disasters around the world.

This year’s theme, “Making Cities Resilient, My city is getting ready” according to him, followed a global campaign launched last May by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR).
