The Benue state Government has promised to pay its counterpart fund towards the implementation of the Water Supply and Sanitation Council (WSSCC)’s sanitation project in the state.
Speaking while receiving members of the Benue State Sanitation Task Group in his office, the State Governor, Mr Samuel Ortom announced that he had sent a supplementary budget of N5.5 Billion to the State House of Assembly,promising that the counterpart fund would be released as soon as the budget is approved.
During the visit, WSSCC’s Water and Sanitation Ambassador in Nigeria ,Engr Ebele Okeke, called for accelerated action to end Open Defecation in the state and improve access to safe water and Sanitation services.
The National Coordinator, Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council, Mrs. Priscilla Achakpa, on her part assured the state government of the continued partnership of the WSSCC to end open defecation in the state, saying the body has embarked on several projects to improve water and sanitation programmes in schools and communities in the state.
